San Juan Pottery

A revival of the San Juan Pueblo pottery tradition began in the 1930s, resulting in the development of polished redware, often deeply carved or with a matte tan-colored field surrounding the body. Contemporary San Juan potters are branching off into many innovative directions.

San Juan Pueblo is located approximately 25 miles north of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Tomasita Reyes Montoya, 1899-1978.

Tomasita was one of the original seven members of the San Juan Pueblo Pottery Revival of the 1930s. This deeply carved bowl was one of Tomasita's specialties.
